| Go to the local park. You'll
see kids on the hard court playing ball. Recreational leagues
for basketball are always going onto the waiting list.
Quite simply, basketball is the sport of preference.
Basketball is a sport that almost everyone can play. Sure,
one may need superior coordination to score 30 points but
the simplicity of the game is what makes the game most popular
to kids. An unorthodox shooting style might be weird to some
but all that matters is putting the ball in the hoop with
consistency. Dribbling is a basic skill that is easily mastered
with a little practice. Passing is a basic skill that most
know how to do by the time they?re able to pick up a basketball.
The fundamentals are basic skills that any kid can pick up
with a little time and practice.
No one likes to be bogged down by a plethora of rules. Rules
bring down the enjoyment of the game. However, in basketball,
the rules in basketball are pleasantly simple. No other sport
is so simple to play. If you touch someone too hard, it's
a foul and the boundaries are out of bounds. There are so
few rules, it?s a game that doesn?t require a lot of worrying
or thinking. Instead, you can just think about having fun
and play for temporary bragging rights.
You don't need to have a full team to play the sport either.
Unlike touch football or soccer, you can play 1 on 1, 3 on
3, or 5 on 5 and not lose some of the essence of the game.
No matter how much competition there is, the game is still
the same. You try to stop the other team from scoring and
you try to score yourself. It's not necessary to call up the
block to have a pick-up game. You only need to ask a neighbor.
Basketball is a great release for some children as well.
Basketball can become an art. The different ways to dunk,
dribble, and pass make the game more exciting than ever before.
Watching a perfect 360-degree spin before a dunk is like watching
Da Vinci paint the Mona Lisa. It's a form of expression. Basketball
also allows people to free their mind of any of the troubles
going on in their life. Having a simple shoot around is enough
for some to relax and forget all their worries.
Financially, basketball is the simplest sport that kids can
play. You can get a cheap basketball at the upcoming yard
sale for a dollar. Or if you want to be more professional,
nice balls are no more expensive than $50. There aren't necessary
pads, shin guards, cleats, or helmets that are needed either.
The simplicity of a shirt, a pair of shorts, and a pair of
sneakers adds to the affordability of the game for parents.
A decent garage basketball hoop is $100. At the local park,
you can use the hard courts for free. It's a game where parents
don't have to constantly spend money and kids can use the
same equipment their whole life if they had to.
The simplicity and unique essence of basketball makes it
the most popular sport among kids.
