If Obama didn't go and Chicago lost, the pundits would have criticized him for NOT going. He can't win. What's the big deal that he went, regardless of the outcome? Who better to represent the U.S. than the president? And especially since he's from Chicago. It made sense. Why revel in the U.S.'s defeats?
On the other hand, I wonder if the IOC wasn't turned off from the presumptuousness of the prez., his wife and Oprah all there sorta almost expecting to win the bid. And Obama's and his wife's speeches were way too much about them and not Chicago or the U.S.
But give the guy a break. And the Olympics are lame anyway. Our NBA team took care of everyone in China the last go around.
The U.S. (as it should be) is the dominant hoops country in the world and will triumph again wherever the next few Olympics are held.
